Device Management

Device management allows you to reset the firewall configuration to factory default, check the current firmware versions, access the advanced shell, and flush reports stored on the appliance.

Device management is accessed from the main menu under Option 5 Device Management. The available options under Device Management are as follows:

Reset to factory defaults

Selecting this resets the firewall to the same state in which it left the factory. All custom configurations are lost, including network configurations, passwords, users, groups, policies, and VPN configurations.

Show Firmware(s)

Lists the currently installed firmware and the previous version of firmware still available to install. The firewall keeps the previous firmware available to allow for easy rollback without the need to reimage.

Advanced Shell

You can use the advanced shell to show more detailed information than the device console. It's a Linux shell and provides full access to the system components, such as databases and system services.

Use the advanced shell with caution.

Warning

Advanced shell commands related to rules and policies won't remain after a restart. They aren't added to backups. You must enter these commands again if you restart the firewall or restore the backup.

Other advanced shell commands, such as files and folders you've created, remain when you restart the firewall or restore the backup to the same firewall. You must enter these commands if you restore the backup to another firewall.

Flush Device Reports

Deletes the reports stored on the firewall. Sophos Firewall will restart and be unreachable over the network for approximately 10 minutes. When flushing reports, you need to consider the time it'll take, as you’ll lose current internet gateway connectivity until the firewall is back online.

Exit

Return to previous menu.
