Discovery

Use the Discovery section to view and configure Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP), Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP), and the MAC, ARP, and Neighbour tables.

CDP is a proprietary protocol for collecting device information from neighbour devices connected directly to Sophos Switch.

LLDP is an open-source protocol for collecting device information from neighbour devices connected directly to Sophos Switch.

The MAC address table stores information about devices connected to Sophos Switch and allows the switch to only send data to a device through the port to which that device is connected.

The Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) table stores information discovered with ARP about devices connected to Sophos Switch.

The neighbour table stores information on other routers and switches connected to Sophos Switch. OSPF uses this information when making traffic routing decisions.

Settings

Use the Settings tab to configure CDP and LLDP global settings.

To configure CDP, do as follows:

  1. For Status, select Enabled or Disabled to turn CDP on or off. When Not set is selected, no configuration is pushed from Sophos Central.
  2. For Voice VLAN advertisement, select Enabled or Disabled to turn CDP on or off. When Not set is selected, no configuration is pushed from Sophos Central.
  3. For Mandatory TLV validation, select Enabled or Disabled to turn CDP on or off. When Not set is selected, no configuration is pushed from Sophos Central.
  4. For Notify voice VLAN mismatch, select Enabled or Disabled to turn CDP on or off. When Not set is selected, no configuration is pushed from Sophos Central.
  5. For Notify VLAN mismatch, select Enabled or Disabled to turn CDP on or off. When Not set is selected, no configuration is pushed from Sophos Central.
  6. For Notify duplex mismatch, select Enabled or Disabled to turn CDP on or off. When Not set is selected, no configuration is pushed from Sophos Central.
  7. Select the Device ID format from the drop-down list. The available options are:

    • MAC address
    • Serial number
  8. Select the Version from the drop-down list. The available options are:

    • v1
    • v2
  9. Enter the Hold time in seconds. The value must be from 10 to 255.

  10. Enter the Transmission interval in seconds. The value must be from 5 to 254.
  11. Click Update to save the configuration.

To configure LLDP, do as follows:

  1. Select the Status from the drop-down list. The available options are:

    • Enabled
    • Disabled
    • Not set

When Not set is selected, no configuration is pushed from Sophos Central.

  2. Enter a Transmission interval in seconds. The value must be from 5 to 32767.

  3. Enter a Holdtime multiplier. The multiplier value is used to calculate the Time-to-Live (TTL) value. The value must be from 2 to 10.
  4. Enter the Reinitialization delay in seconds. The value must be from 1 to 10.
  5. Enter the Transmit delay in seconds. The value must be from 1 to 8191.
  6. Click Update to save the configuration.

Ports

Use the Ports tab to configure CDP settings on individual ports using the drop-down lists. The following settings are available:

  • CDP Status
  • Notify VLAN mismatch
  • Notify voice VLAN mismatch
  • Notify duplex mismatch

Click Update to save the configuration.

Self

The Self section shows CDP and LLDP information of Sophos Switch in the Device information table and information for individual ports in the Port information table.

Neighbours

The Neighbours section shows device information of CDP and LLDP-enabled neighbour devices connected directly to Sophos Switch.

ARP

The ARP section shows the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) table and allows you to manually add new ARP entries. You can also access the ARP global settings to configure how Sophos Switch sends ARP requests.

To add a new ARP entry, do as follows:

  1. Go to My Products > Switches > Switches.
  2. Click the serial number of the switch you want to configure.
  3. Go to Discovery.
  4. Go to ARP.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Enter the IP address.
  7. Enter the MAC address.
  8. Select the VLAN.
  9. Click Save.

To change the ARP global settings, do as follows:

  1. Go to My Products > Switches > Switches.
  2. Click the serial number of the switch you want to configure.
  3. Go to Discovery.
  4. Go to ARP.
  5. Click ARP global settings.
  6. Enter the Maximum number of retries. This is the maximum number of times Sophos Switch will try to confirm a device is present after a failed ARP request.
  7. Enter the Timeout in seconds.
  8. Click Update.

MAC

The MAC section shows the MAC address table and allows you to manually add new MAC entries. You can also access the MAC global settings to configure the time that MAC entries remain in the MAC address table.

To add a new MAC entry, do as follows:

  1. Go to My Products > Switches > Switches.
  2. Click the serial number of the switch you want to configure.
  3. Go to Discovery.
  4. Go to MAC.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Enter the MAC address.
  7. Enter the Port the device is connected to.
  8. Select the VLAN.
  9. Click Save.

To change the MAC global settings, do as follows:

  1. Go to My Products > Switches > Switches.
  2. Click the serial number of the switch you want to configure.
  3. Go to Discovery.
  4. Go to MAC.
  5. Click MAC global settings.
  6. Enter the MAC aging time in seconds.
  7. Click Update.

Neighbour discovery

The Neighbour discovery section shows the device discovery table and allows you to manually add new entries to the table.

To add a new entry, do as follows:

  1. Go to My Products > Switches > Switches.
