Get the identifier of an app

Some tasks in Sophos Mobile Admin require you to select an app by its internal identifier.

Do as follows to find out the identifier.

Android apps

For Android apps, you get the identifier from the app’s URL in Google Play.

  1. Open Google Play in a web browser.
  2. Search for the app.
  3. In the results list, click on the app to open it in Google Play.

The identifier is the last component of the URL that is displayed in the browser’s address bar.

For example for Sophos Intercept X for Mobile, the URL is play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sophos.smsec and the identifier is com.sophos.smsec.

The identifier of Android apps is part of their Google Play URL.

iOS and iPadOS apps

For iOS and iPadOS apps, you get the identifier in Sophos Mobile Admin from the app name.

  1. On the menu sidebar, click Apps > iOS & iPadOS.
  2. Click Add app > iOS link.
  3. Click Search in App Store.
  4. Enter the name of the app and click Search (labeled 1 and 2 in the next image).
  5. Select the app in the results list (labeled 3 in the next image).

Search for Sophos Intercept X for Mobile in the App Store.

Sophos Mobile retrieves the app details from the App Store and puts them in the relevant fields. App ID contains the identifier.

For example for Sophos Intercept X for Mobile, the identifier is com.sophos.mobile.security.

The identifier of iOS and iPadOS apps is retrieved by Sophos Mobile from the App Store.

Chrome OS apps and extensions

For Chrome OS apps and extensions, you get the identifier from the URL in the Chrome Web Store.

  1. Open the Chrome Web Store in a web browser.
  2. Search for the app or extension.
  3. In the results list, click on the app or extension to open it in the Chrome Web Store.

The identifier is the last component of the URL that is displayed in the browser’s address bar.

For example for Sophos Chrome Security, the URL is chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/sophos-chrome-security/lkffbjbdklhachngaoeelmcgijmlicph and the identifier is lkffbjbdklhachngaoeelmcgijmlicph.

The identifier of Chrome OS apps and extensions is part of their Chrome Web Store URL.
