Fix conflicts with Microsoft 365 rules

If you've already set up mail flow rules in your Microsoft 365 domain, they may conflict with the rules created by Sophos Mailflow.

If the Sophos Mailflow setup detects existing rules for the Microsoft 365 domain you're configuring, the Pre-existing Mailflow Rules Found message appears.

Choose one of the following.

  • Complete Sophos Mailflow Configuration. Your Sophos Mailflow configuration is turned on when setup completes.

Choose this option if you know about your existing connectors and rules in your Microsoft 365 domain and know they won't affect the Sophos connectors and rules. Allow setup to complete.

  • Complete Sophos mailflow configuration but keep it turned off. The connectors and rules are created in your Microsoft 365 domain, but the connection isn't turned on in Sophos Mailflow. Choose this option if you don't know if your existing rules may conflict.

If you choose this option, you must review your Microsoft 365 mail flow rules after setup is complete, then turn the connection on.

Review your Microsoft 365 rules

If you choose Complete Sophos mailflow configuration but keep it turned off, you must review your Microsoft 365 mail flow rules after setup is complete.

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft Exchange admin center.
  2. Compare your existing rules and connectors with those that Sophos Mailflow created in your domain.
  3. Change your pre-existing rules, if necessary, to resolve any conflict.

When you're sure there's no conflict, you can turn on the connection to the domain in Sophos Central.

To turn on your connection, do as follows.

  1. Go to My Products > General Settings > M365 Mailflow Domain Settings / Status.
  2. Find the domain and click Connect.

If you have problems, you can test the connection. See Troubleshoot Sophos Mailflow.
